The Minister of Justice at Telavi State University

The Minister of Justice of Georgia visited Telavi State University on December 3rd. Tea Tsulukiani made a presentation about the Juvenile Justice Code.
The Minister spoke about the novelties with the students. The Code is introducing innovations for the children in conflict with the law. The basic principles of juvenile justice code are based on the following:

    • Priority of the best interests of the minor;
    • Nullification of previous convictions;
    • Individual approach;
    • Detention and imprisonment only as a last resort;
    • Disallowing delay of the proceedings;
    • Improvement of detention/imprisonment conditions;
    • Priority of alternative measure;
    • Proportionality and conformity.
      • The Code will come into force from January 1, 2016. In addition, enactment of articles, which require implementation of additional measures is scheduled for January 1, 2017.

 

        At the end of the meeting, Tesau students were gifted with booklets, T-shirts and different accessories depicting innovation system of justice for juveniles.
